Public drinking row leads to assault in Porvorim

A dispute over public drinking turned violent in Porvorim after a 44-year-old resident of PDA Colony was allegedly assaulted by three men near a wine shop for objecting to their behaviour. The victim, identified as Mihir Agshikar, reportedly confronted the group over consuming alcohol in a public place, following which an argument escalated into a physical attack.

According to police, Agshikar sustained injuries in the assault and later approached Porvorim Police, who registered a case and launched an investigation. One accused was initially arrested, while efforts were initiated to trace the remaining suspects involved in the incident.

Police subsequently intensified the investigation, leading to the identification of the accused. Authorities stated that legal action has been initiated under relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), and further investigation is underway.

The incident has sparked concern among residents, who have called for stricter enforcement against public drinking and anti-social activities in residential areas. Police have urged citizens to report such incidents promptly to help maintain public order.
