Birch Manager gets 8-Day Police custody

In a major development in the investigation into the tragic Birch by Romeo Lane nightclub fire, Anjuna Police arrested Bijay Kumar Singh, the operational manager of the establishment, for his alleged role in the incident that claimed 25 lives in December 2025. Singh is reported to be the ninth accused arrested in connection with the case.

Following his arrest, Singh was produced before the Judicial Magistrate First Class (JMFC) Court in Mapusa, which remanded him to eight days of police custody. Investigators are expected to question him regarding the management and operational aspects of the nightclub, including compliance with safety regulations and the circumstances leading up to the deadly fire.

The Birch fire, one of the worst tragedies in Goa’s recent history, occurred at the popular Arpora nightclub and resulted in the deaths of 25 people, including tourists and staff members. The incident triggered widespread public outrage and raised serious concerns about fire safety compliance, licensing procedures, and regulatory oversight.

Police have already arrested several individuals linked to the nightclub, while investigations continue to determine accountability and identify any lapses that may have contributed to the disaster. Authorities have stated that further arrests are possible as the probe progresses.
