Panaji: Two rat snakes were safely rescued from the Altinho area of Panaji after they were spotted in a residential locality, prompting a swift response from wildlife rescuers.
The snakes were carefully captured using safe and humane rescue techniques, ensuring there was no harm to either the reptiles or nearby residents. Following the rescue, both rat snakes were relocated to a suitable natural habitat away from human settlements.
Wildlife rescuers have urged the public not to panic if snakes are spotted, noting that rat snakes are non-venomous and play a vital role in controlling rodent populations. Residents are advised to maintain a safe distance and contact trained rescuers or the Forest Department instead of attempting to handle the animals themselves.
The successful rescue highlights the importance of wildlife conservation and the need for peaceful coexistence between humans and native wildlife, especially during the monsoon season when snake sightings become more frequent.
