Eviction Ordered for Panaji’s Junta House Over Safety Concerns

The North Goa district administration has issued a formal order for the evacuation of Junta House, one of Panaji’s most prominent government buildings, citing serious structural vulnerabilities.

As per the directive issued by North Goa Collector Ankit Yadav, all occupants of the building must vacate the premises within 30 days. The decision follows a structural audit that classified the building as unsafe and dilapidated, posing potential risks to both public and staff safety.

The eviction has been ordered in accordance with the provisions of the Disaster Management Act, 2005, and the General Administration Department (GAD) has been instructed to oversee the process and submit an action taken report by August 2, 2025.

This action comes after repeated incidents of ceiling collapses and reports of severe water seepage, corrosion, and slab weakening in the decades-old structure. Despite its declining condition, several government offices were still operating out of the building until recently.
