Voter List Controversy in Pernem: Officials Reject Allegations

Pernem: A controversy has emerged in Pernem after residents of Ward No. 3, led by social activist and advocate Sagar Ajgaonkar, approached the authorities alleging that the names of several voters had been shifted to different wards. The allegations have sparked discussions on the accuracy of electoral records and the importance of maintaining transparency in the electoral process.

According to the residents, discrepancies were noticed in the voter list, with claims that names of eligible voters had allegedly been moved to other wards without their knowledge. Concerned citizens have sought clarification from the authorities, arguing that any such changes could create confusion among voters and affect the integrity of the electoral process.

Adv. Sagar Ajgaonkar, who accompanied the residents in raising the issue, urged the administration to conduct a thorough verification of the electoral rolls and ensure that every eligible voter is assigned to the correct ward. He emphasized that maintaining accurate voter records is essential for safeguarding democratic participation and preserving public confidence in the electoral system.

However, Deputy Collector Shivprasad Naik has firmly rejected the allegations, stating that no modifications have been made to the voter list. According to Naik, the electoral records remain unchanged, and there has been no unauthorized shifting of voters from one ward to another. He assured that the voter lists have been prepared and maintained in accordance with the prescribed procedures and that the records are reliable.

The differing claims have led to growing public interest in the matter, with residents seeking greater clarity on the preparation and maintenance of electoral rolls. While officials have maintained that the records are accurate, some residents continue to demand a detailed explanation to address their concerns and remove any uncertainty ahead of future civic processes.

The incident has once again highlighted the significance of transparency and accountability in electoral administration. Accurate voter lists are considered a cornerstone of free and fair elections, and any perceived discrepancies often attract close public scrutiny.

Authorities have assured citizens that any genuine grievances related to voter registration or ward allocation will be examined through the appropriate channels. Meanwhile, residents have expressed hope that their concerns will be addressed promptly to ensure confidence in the electoral system and avoid confusion during future elections.
