Concerns over the impact of development projects on Goa’s cultural identity and local communities have once again come to the forefront, with Gadganvcho Awaaz and youth leader MAPrabhav urging the public to support villagers of Mirabag–Sanvordem opposing the proposed Bandhara project.
In a public appeal, the group expressed concern that development initiatives should be carefully planned to ensure they do not adversely affect Goa’s environment, heritage, or the interests of local communities. They stressed that development and conservation should go hand in hand, with adequate consultation and transparency throughout the planning process.
The appeal specifically called on citizens to stand in solidarity with residents of Mirabag–Sanvordem, who have voiced objections to the Bandhara project. According to the group, the villagers are seeking greater clarity regarding the project’s potential impact and have called for their concerns to be addressed before any further action is taken.
The issue has added to the broader debate surrounding infrastructure development in Goa, where several projects have sparked discussions over environmental sustainability, land use, and the preservation of the state’s unique cultural identity. Community groups have increasingly advocated for greater public participation in decision-making processes involving major development works.
Supporters of the movement believe that meaningful dialogue between authorities, project stakeholders, and affected residents is essential to ensure balanced and sustainable development. They have urged the government to consider the concerns raised by local communities while evaluating infrastructure proposals.
As the debate continues, the response from the authorities and the future of the Bandhara project are expected to be closely watched by residents, environmental groups, and political observers across the state.
The Goa Monitor will continue to follow the developments and provide updates as more official information becomes available.
