Prabhav Naik Urges GSIDC to Halt Tender Opening for Margao Garden Project

A fresh controversy has emerged over the proposed construction at the Margao Municipal Garden, with youth leader Prabhav Naik calling on the Goa State Infrastructure Development Corporation (GSIDC) to immediately halt the opening of tenders for the project.

Naik has urged the GSIDC to reconsider the proposal, arguing that any permanent structure within the city’s iconic public garden could compromise its open spaces and recreational character. He warned that moving ahead with the tender process without addressing public concerns could trigger widespread opposition from residents and civic groups.

Expressing concern over the future of one of Margao’s most cherished public spaces, Naik said development should not come at the cost of preserving green areas that serve as important recreational and environmental assets for the community. He called for greater transparency, wider public consultation, and a thorough review of the project’s necessity before any further steps are taken.

The proposed structure has sparked debate among citizens, with many seeking clarity on the project’s purpose, design, and potential impact on the garden. Naik maintained that decisions affecting public spaces should involve meaningful public participation to ensure that development aligns with the interests of local residents.

As discussions continue, all eyes are now on the GSIDC and the state government to see whether the tender process will proceed as planned or if the concerns raised by citizens and activists will lead to a reconsideration of the project.
