Body of Missing Man Recovered in Thivim

A 61-year-old man from Tivim, who had gone missing while fishing on Sunday evening, was found dead after his body was recovered from a water body in Mapusa on Monday morning.

The deceased has been identified as Narendra Sawant (61), a resident of Tivim. According to available information, Sawant had gone fishing near a river close to St. Christopher’s Church in Bardez on Sunday evening. When he failed to return home, his family members grew worried and alerted the authorities.

Concerns of a possible drowning arose after Sawant’s fishing rod was found abandoned on the riverbank, suggesting that he may have entered the water or accidentally fallen in while fishing. A search operation was subsequently launched to trace the missing man.

After an overnight search, Sawant’s body was recovered from a nearby water body in Mapusa on Monday morning. Police and other concerned authorities reached the spot and carried out the necessary procedures before shifting the body for a post-mortem examination to determine the exact cause of death.

An investigation has been initiated to ascertain the circumstances leading to the incident. While foul play has not been suspected at this stage, officials are expected to rely on the post-mortem findings and the ongoing inquiry to establish the sequence of events.

The tragic incident has left residents of Tivim and the local fishing community in shock, with many expressing grief over Sawant’s untimely death.
