POLICE SUPPORT FOR LAWFUL CATTLE IMPOUNDING: CM SAWANT

Goa Government Unveils New Animal Welfare and Public Safety Measures

In a decisive move to address the dual concerns of animal management and public safety, Chief Minister Dr. Pramod Sawant recently chaired a crucial meeting of the Goa State Animal Welfare Board. The high-level gathering focused on devising actionable strategies to better manage stray animal populations and regulate related commercial trades. The resulting directives highlight the state’s commitment to establishing a more structured, effective, and humane approach to animal control across Goa.

A major outcome of the meeting was the decision to provide official police support for the humane and lawful impounding of cattle, an initiative designed to safely manage stray livestock. Alongside this, the board announced strict mandates for the compulsory sterilization and vaccination of dogs to curb the stray canine population. To ensure these veterinary efforts are accessible statewide, mobile sterilization units will be deployed to service remote areas. Additionally, the board introduced a mandatory registration requirement for meat traders to increase accountability and oversight within the sector.

These sweeping measures are strategically designed to ensure the rigorous enforcement of animal welfare norms without compromising the safety of residents. By integrating law enforcement support with widespread veterinary interventions, the government aims to mitigate human-animal conflicts and create a secure public environment. The comprehensive nature of these decisions reflects a proactive stance on resolving longstanding civic challenges while guaranteeing that animals are handled with necessary legal protection and care.
