A violent altercation broke out in Baga between two non-Goan businessmen – one a sweet shop retailer, the other a wholesaler, after the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) seized a batch of substandard sweets from the retailer’s shop.
The FDA conducted a surprise inspection and confiscated the unsafe food items, which reportedly did not meet safety standards. In the aftermath, the retailer allegedly accused the wholesaler of tipping off the authorities. Tensions escalated, leading to a physical fight that left both individuals seriously injured. Onlookers intervened and rushed the men to a nearby hospital for treatment. The incident has raised concerns over food safety, increasing business rivalries, and enforcement effectiveness in the tourist-heavy Baga area. Authorities are investigating the matter, while FDA officials continue to monitor food quality standards in local markets.
