In a move to curb illegal bullfighting, also known as dhirio, the North Goa District Magistrate has established special committees at the taluka level to take swift action against such activities.

The decision comes in response to court directives aimed at preventing animal cruelty under the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act. These newly formed committees will comprise representatives from the police, revenue, and animal husbandry departments. Their role is to actively monitor, identify, and act against any unauthorized bullfighting events in the region. Officials have also appealed to the public to report such events to local authorities, reinforcing the government’s stance on upholding animal welfare and legal compliance.
