A landslide occurred on the newly constructed Vathadev–Valshi bypass in Goa’s Bicholim area following intense rainfall, disrupting traffic and sparking fresh safety concerns among local commuters. A two-wheeler narrowly avoided being struck by falling debris during the incident, highlighting the growing danger along this route. Residents and local leaders have repeatedly warned that the road was built by cutting a steep hillside without proper slope protection or retaining walls. Despite these concerns, the road was opened in early June. Since then, multiple accidents and at least three landslides have occurred, leading locals to demand immediate intervention.

Officials, including the area MLA and municipal councillors, have urged the Public Works Department to conduct a structural safety audit, clear loose debris, and temporarily close the road until adequate stabilization work is completed. The situation has intensified public pressure on authorities to hold contractors accountable for substandard construction practices. The road, designed to ease congestion in the Bicholim region, now poses serious risks during the monsoon. Locals are urging for swift remedial actions before a major tragedy occurs.
