The Goa State Biodiversity Board (GSBB) has expressed concern over the unsustainable collection of Roen Alami, a seasonal wild mushroom popular in Goa. The board has appealed to the public to limit consumption and harvesting of these forest mushrooms to help preserve biodiversity. In its advisory, GSBB recommends opting for cultivated mushrooms like button and oyster varieties, which are affordable, nutritious, and environmentally sustainable. It has also urged foragers to leave at least 50% of young mushrooms intact on termite mounds to allow natural regeneration.

The board emphasized the ecological importance of Roen Alami and warned that uncontrolled harvesting could disturb the natural balance and hinder future biodiversity studies. The public has also been cautioned about the health risks associated with consuming wild mushrooms that may be toxic or misidentified.
