In a major drug haul, the Air Intelligence Unit (AIU) of Goa Customs seized more than 9 kg of hydroponic cannabis valued at approximately ₹3.2 crore at the Manohar International Airport (MIA), Mopa. The contraband was recovered from a passenger who arrived from Bangkok via Tashkent during a routine inspection.
According to Customs officials, the passenger’s baggage was flagged during profiling and screening. A detailed search led to the recovery of vacuum-sealed packets containing hydroponic cannabis, a high-potency form of marijuana that commands a premium price in the illegal drug market. The seized narcotics were concealed inside the passenger’s luggage in an attempt to evade detection.
The passenger has been arrested under the provisions of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, 1985. Customs officials have launched a detailed investigation to ascertain the source and intended destination of the consignment, as well as to identify any international trafficking network linked to the seizure.
Authorities said the seizure underscores the continued vigilance of Customs officials at Goa’s international airport in combating cross-border drug trafficking. The investigation is ongoing, and further arrests have not been ruled out.
