A cannabis plant was found growing from a pavement crack outside the historic Casa de Moeda building in central Panjim on July 7, 2025, prompting swift action by local authorities. The plant, approximately 20 cm tall, was removed shortly after it was reported by passersby. Preliminary observations suggest the plant may have grown from seeds casually discarded by visitors. The Anti-Narcotic Cell (ANC) has launched an inquiry under the NDPS Act, though officials believe this to be an isolated incident with no indication of organised cultivation. Authorities have urged the public to remain vigilant and continue reporting any narcotics-related activity as part of ongoing efforts to uphold public safety and compliance with drug laws.
