CM Sawant: ST Political Reservation Process to be Fast-Tracked

Goa Chief Minister Pramod Sawant has assured that the process for implementing Scheduled Tribe (ST) political reservation in the state will be accelerated, marking a significant step towards addressing a long-pending demand for greater political representation of the tribal community.

The Chief Minister said the state government is committed to ensuring that the process moves forward without unnecessary delays and that all necessary steps will be taken in coordination with the concerned authorities. He reiterated the government’s commitment to safeguarding the rights and interests of the Scheduled Tribe community while working within the constitutional framework.

The assurance comes amid sustained demands from various tribal organisations and community leaders, who have been seeking political reservation to ensure adequate representation in local governance and legislative bodies. The issue has remained a key concern for Goa’s ST community, with repeated calls for the implementation of constitutional provisions relating to political empowerment.

CM Sawant stated that the government recognises the importance of providing equitable political representation and is actively pursuing the matter. He expressed confidence that the process would gather momentum, bringing the state closer to fulfilling a longstanding aspiration of the Scheduled Tribe community.

The announcement has been welcomed by many stakeholders, who view it as a positive development in the ongoing efforts to strengthen democratic participation and ensure inclusive governance. Community representatives have consistently maintained that political reservation is essential to provide tribal communities with a stronger voice in policymaking and development initiatives.

The state government has reiterated that it remains committed to resolving the issue through due legal and administrative procedures while ensuring that the interests of all stakeholders are taken into consideration. The renewed assurance is expected to bring fresh optimism to the long-standing demand for Scheduled Tribe political reservation in Goa.
