Chief Minister Dr. Pramod Sawant has announced that the state government will table a Bill targeting the issue of illegal structures in the upcoming Assembly session next week. The move comes in response to concerns raised by Aldona MLA Carlos Ferreira, who highlighted the potential demolition threats posed by the Regional Plan 2021 (RPG-2021). Ferreira stressed that numerous homes and buildings in villages like Pomburpa, Ecoxim, and parts of Aldona, which predate the RPG-2021 could be affected due to non-compliance with new road widening and setback regulations.

“There’s a real risk that entire communities could be wiped out under these provisions,” Ferreira warned, urging the government to safeguard traditional village settlements and respect pre-existing structures. In response, CM Sawant assured the House that the government is aware of the issue and a comprehensive legal solution will be presented. “The Cabinet is reviewing it, and the Bill will be tabled next week,” he said. The upcoming legislation is expected to provide clarity and legal backing for structures that existed before the RPG-2021 came into effect and protect homeowners from arbitrary demolitions.
