Margao: Social activist Savio Coutinho has lodged a police complaint alleging that the minutes of a meeting of the Margao Municipal Council (MMC) were forged in connection with a ₹6.53 crore garbage collection proposal.
According to the complaint, the proposal relating to the garbage collection contract was allegedly deferred during the council meeting and was not approved by the members present. However, Coutinho has claimed that the official meeting minutes later recorded the proposal as having been approved, raising serious concerns over the authenticity of the records.
In his complaint, Coutinho has sought a thorough investigation into the alleged manipulation of the meeting minutes, contending that any alteration of official municipal records undermines transparency, accountability, and public trust in the functioning of the civic body.
The complaint reportedly urges the police to examine the original meeting records, verify the proceedings, and determine whether any offences involving forgery, fabrication of official documents, or abuse of authority have been committed.
The allegations have brought renewed attention to the ₹6.53 crore garbage collection issue, with demands from various quarters for a fair and impartial inquiry into the matter. As of now, the Margao Municipal Council has not issued an official response to the allegations.
Police are expected to examine the complaint and take further action in accordance with the law after reviewing the material placed before them.
