Sea Turtle Lays 135 Eggs at Morjim Beach, Reinforcing Goa’s Role as a Key Nesting Site

In a positive sign for marine conservation, a sea turtle arrived at Tembwada–Morjim beach at around 9:30 pm on the 30th and successfully laid 135 eggs.

Earlier, another turtle had laid 99 eggs at the same beach, taking the total number of turtle nestings this season at Morjim to two so far. Conservationists have welcomed the development, citing it as an encouraging indicator of the health and safety of Goa’s coastline.

Morjim continues to hold importance as a major nesting ground for sea turtles. Last year, the Morjim coastline recorded a historic high of 206 turtle nestings, highlighting its critical role in protecting marine biodiversity.

Authorities and volunteers have secured the nesting area and are monitoring it closely to ensure the eggs remain undisturbed.
