Residents of St Cruz have issued a one-week ultimatum to the Goa government, demanding the notification of the Bondvol Lake influence zone. They warned that they would launch a hunger strike if no action is taken within the stipulated period.
The villagers alleged that despite national guidelines protecting wetlands, the Bondvol Lake area is being incorrectly interpreted at the state level. They argued that the lack of proper notification leaves the ecologically sensitive region vulnerable to unregulated development.
Residents demanded immediate implementation of conservation measures and strict adherence to environmental laws. They stressed that protecting the lake is essential for preserving biodiversity, maintaining groundwater resources, and safeguarding the interests of future generations.
Community leaders said they remain open to discussions with the government but will continue democratic protests until their demands are addressed. They urged authorities to act swiftly to prevent irreversible environmental damage.
