Birch Fire Case: Ninth accused arrested from Jharkhand

In a significant development in the investigation into the Birch by Romeo Lane nightclub fire, Anjuna Police have arrested Bijay Kumar Singh (38), the operational manager of the nightclub, from Jharkhand. Singh is the ninth person to be arrested in connection with the December 2025 tragedy that claimed 25 lives and left several others injured.

Following his arrest, Singh was produced before the Judicial Magistrate First Class (JMFC) Court in Mapusa, which remanded him to eight days of police custody. Investigators are expected to question him regarding the club’s operations, safety protocols, and compliance with statutory fire safety regulations before the incident.

The Birch fire, one of Goa’s deadliest recent disasters, has triggered widespread scrutiny over licensing procedures, fire safety compliance, and regulatory oversight. Police have already arrested several individuals linked to the nightclub and are continuing their investigation to establish accountability and identify any additional persons responsible for the lapses that led to the tragedy.

Authorities have indicated that further action may follow as the investigation progresses, while victims’ families continue to seek justice and accountability for the loss of their loved ones.
