SC dismisses SLP of land grab accused Siddiqui Khan

The Supreme Court has dismissed as withdrawn a Special Leave Petition (SLP) filed by alleged land grab accused Suleman Siddique Khan, who had challenged an order of the Bombay High Court at Goa refusing to entertain his plea against alleged illegal detention. The matter came up before a three-judge bench, where Khan’s counsel sought permission to withdraw the petition after arguments were heard. The court subsequently dismissed the plea as withdrawn.

Khan had earlier approached the High Court questioning the legality of his arrest by the Special Investigation Team (SIT), which is probing a series of alleged land grab cases in Goa. He claimed that procedural safeguards were not followed during his arrest and sought relief on grounds of alleged illegal detention. However, the High Court had declined to grant any relief and dismissed his petition in November 2025.

The SIT has described Khan as a key accused in multiple land fraud cases across the state. He was arrested in November 2024 after being traced to Hubli, Karnataka, following a prolonged period of absconding. In December 2024, Khan escaped from SIT custody in Ribandar but was re-arrested within weeks.

Khan has previously faced setbacks in several legal proceedings, including the rejection of bail pleas and petitions seeking transfer of investigations. With the withdrawal of the SLP, the High Court’s order remains in force, while investigations into the alleged land grab cases continue.
