The Judicial Magistrate First Class (JMFC) Court in Mapusa has granted bail to Abdul Rahman, the accused in a chain snatching case registered by Saligao Police. Rahman, a 32-year-old resident of Haridwar, Uttarakhand, was arrested on January 3 for allegedly snatching a gold chain from a woman at PDA Colony in Porvorim.
The court granted bail on the execution of a personal bond of ₹20,000, subject to several conditions. As part of the bail order, the accused has been directed to report to the Saligao Police Station for the next 12 days to assist with the ongoing investigation. He has also been instructed not to tamper with evidence or influence witnesses and must cooperate fully with the investigating officers.
Saligao Police had earlier claimed to have solved the chain snatching case within a short span after tracing and arresting the accused. The investigation was carried out using CCTV footage and other technical evidence, which allegedly linked Rahman to the offence. Police have stated that the probe will continue despite the grant of bail.
The case remains under investigation, and authorities are expected to file a chargesheet upon completion of the probe.
