A Goa court has rejected the bail applications of three accused in the murder of Umakant Khot, observing that the allegations against them were serious and that the investigation had revealed sufficient material to warrant their continued judicial custody.
The accused had approached the court seeking regular bail, contending that they had been falsely implicated in the case and had cooperated with the investigation. However, the prosecution opposed the pleas, arguing that the offence was grave in nature and that releasing the accused at this stage could hamper the trial or influence witnesses.
After hearing arguments from both sides, the court dismissed the bail applications, noting the seriousness of the charges and the evidence placed on record during the investigation. The accused will continue to remain in judicial custody as the case proceeds.
The murder of Umakant Khot had drawn considerable public attention, prompting an extensive investigation by Goa Police. Authorities have stated that the probe has been completed, and the case is now progressing through the judicial process.
The trial is expected to continue in the coming months, with the prosecution set to present evidence and witness testimonies before the court.
