Panaji, Goa: The controversy surrounding recruitment at the National Institute of Technology (NIT) Goa has intensified, with Chief Minister Pramod Sawant confirming that the recruitment process has been temporarily put on hold. The decision follows concerns raised over transparency, fairness, and the limited representation of Goan candidates in recent appointments.
According to the Chief Minister, the matter has been taken up with Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan, and the recruitment process will be reviewed and streamlined to ensure greater opportunities for qualified Goan youth. The move comes amid public criticism after reports indicated that only a small percentage of recently filled teaching and non-teaching positions went to local candidates.
State authorities have indicated that discussions with the Centre are ongoing, with a revised recruitment framework expected to address concerns while maintaining merit and institutional standards. The issue continues to spark debate across Goa, with calls for greater transparency and accountability in hiring practices at the premier institute.
