Town and Country Planning (TCP) Minister Vishwajit Rane has dismissed allegations of large-scale land conversion in Pernem, stating that claims suggesting 60 lakh square metres of land have been converted are “completely false” and based on incorrect information.
Clarifying the government’s position, Rane said that only 21 land conversion cases, covering a total of 2.36 lakh square metres, have been officially notified. He emphasized that these figures are a matter of public record and do not support the allegations being circulated.
The minister further explained that provisional proposals and applications under consideration should not be interpreted as approved land conversions. He urged legislators and public representatives to verify official records before making statements that could mislead the public.
The clarification comes amid growing debate over land use and development in Pernem, with concerns being raised about the environmental and planning implications of conversion proposals. Rane reiterated that the TCP Department follows the prescribed legal procedures while processing applications and remains committed to transparency in decision-making.
The issue continues to draw attention from political leaders, environmental groups, and local residents, with the government maintaining that accurate information is essential for informed public discussion.
