ONE HELD FOR AUTO THEFT IN SALIGAO

The Saligao Police have made a significant breakthrough in a local auto theft case with the recent arrest of a 48-year-old Mapusa resident. The suspect, identified as Sunil Haldankar, was apprehended in connection with the theft of a two-wheeler. The incident was initially reported after a scooter was stolen near the RG Hospital located in the Porvorim area, prompting local authorities to launch an investigation that ultimately led to Haldankar’s capture.

Following Haldankar’s arrest, the subsequent police investigation yielded substantial results that point to a potentially wider criminal operation. Officers not only successfully recovered the scooter stolen from Porvorim, but they also discovered six additional damaged vehicles in the process. Law enforcement officials suspect that these recovered vehicles are linked to various other auto theft cases that have been previously registered across different police stations in the region.

To thoroughly probe these suspected connections and unravel the full extent of the accused’s involvement, the police presented Haldankar before the relevant judicial authorities. The court has remanded the accused to four days of police custody. During this custodial period, investigators aim to interrogate Haldankar extensively to trace the origins of the other damaged vehicles and determine the broader scope of his alleged illicit activities.
