Panaji, July 2025:
The Goa Public Works Department (PWD) has sent show-cause notices to 29 contractors responsible for poor road construction that still falls under the Defect Liability Period (DLP). The department acted after receiving several complaints about damaged and unsafe roads across the state. According to officials, the contractors failed to follow key construction norms, including proper road camber, drainage, and support structures. They have now been asked to fix the issues at their own expense or risk being blacklisted and barred from future tenders.

Additionally, around 30 PWD engineers and officials are under scrutiny for failing to supervise the work properly. Disciplinary action has been initiated against them. Chief Minister Pramod Sawant has set a deadline of November 30, 2025, for all roads to be repaired and made safe for travel. The state also plans to introduce a GIS-based road tracking system in October to monitor progress, contractor performance, and compliance with DLP guidelines. This move is part of a broader effort to improve road quality and ensure accountability among contractors and public officials.
