Porvorim, Goa: Motorists travelling through Porvorim should prepare for traffic changes as a temporary diversion will be in effect from March 20 to May 19, 2026, to facilitate Phase-3 infrastructure works in the area.
Authorities have announced that while one lane will remain open for vehicles travelling towards Panaji, heavy vehicles approaching from the Mapusa side will not be permitted due to the steep ascent and ongoing construction activity.
Diversion to Facilitate Phase-3 Works
The traffic management plan has been introduced to ensure the smooth execution of Phase-3 works while maintaining the safe movement of vehicles through the construction zone.
Officials said the restrictions are necessary to minimise congestion, protect road users, and allow construction work to progress without major interruptions.
The diversion will remain in force for approximately two months.
One Lane Open Towards Panaji
During the diversion period, one lane will remain operational for vehicles travelling towards Panaji, allowing essential traffic movement despite the ongoing works.
Motorists have been advised to drive cautiously, follow temporary traffic signs, and comply with instructions issued by traffic police and on-site personnel.
Travelers should also expect delays, particularly during peak hours.
Heavy Vehicles Restricted from Mapusa Side
As part of the traffic management plan, heavy vehicles travelling from the Mapusa side towards Porvorim will not be allowed on the affected stretch.
Authorities said the restriction has been imposed because the steep ascent, combined with construction activity, could pose safety risks and lead to traffic bottlenecks.
Heavy vehicle operators are advised to use alternative routes during the diversion period.
Public Advised to Plan Travel
Commuters are encouraged to plan their journeys in advance and allow additional travel time while the road works are underway.
Traffic police and the executing agency will monitor the situation and make adjustments if required to ensure smoother traffic flow.
Authorities have sought the public’s cooperation, stating that the temporary inconvenience is necessary for long-term infrastructure improvements.
