ChatGPT Used in Board Exams

Two students were awarded zero marks after they were caught using mobile phones and allegedly attempting to obtain answers through ChatGPT during the Higher Secondary School Certificate (HSSC) examination, Goa Board Chairman Bhagirath Shetye has said.

Speaking on the matter, Shetye said the students were found in possession of mobile phones during the examination and were attempting to use the AI-based platform to answer questions. As per the examination rules, the use of mobile phones or any unauthorised electronic devices inside the examination hall is strictly prohibited.

He stated that the board treated the incident as a serious breach of examination discipline and took immediate action in accordance with the prescribed regulations. Both students were awarded zero marks for violating the rules, reinforcing the board’s zero-tolerance policy towards unfair means during examinations.

Shetye also urged students to rely on their own preparation and avoid resorting to malpractice or technology-assisted cheating. He emphasized that while artificial intelligence tools such as ChatGPT can be valuable learning aids outside the classroom, using them during examinations is strictly prohibited and attracts disciplinary action.

The Goa Board has reiterated its commitment to conducting fair and transparent examinations and warned that candidates found violating examination norms will face strict consequences.
