Pre-monsoon showers brought welcome relief from soaring temperatures across Salcete, but the change in weather also exposed vulnerabilities in the region’s power infrastructure, leaving several villages without electricity for extended periods.
Residents of Cavelossim, Carmona, Orlim, and parts of Varca reported repeated power outages throughout the day following light rainfall. According to reports, the disruptions were linked to a technical fault at the Velim substation, affecting electricity supply in multiple areas.
While the rainfall offered respite from the heat and signaled the approaching monsoon season, the recurring power cuts caused inconvenience to households, businesses, and students. Many residents expressed concern over the reliability of the power supply, especially with the monsoon expected to intensify in the coming weeks.
Power interruptions during the pre-monsoon period have often raised concerns about the preparedness of electrical infrastructure to withstand seasonal weather conditions. Residents have called for timely maintenance and preventive measures to minimise disruptions during the rainy season.
Authorities are expected to monitor the situation and undertake the necessary repairs to restore normal power supply and strengthen the network against future weather-related faults.
As Goa prepares for the arrival of the monsoon, ensuring reliable electricity and infrastructure resilience remains a key priority for both utility providers and local authorities.
