Margao: A massive garbage pile-up in the Davorlim–Navelim area has triggered fresh concerns over public health and sanitation after locals were allegedly found dumping waste in the open.
According to Navelim MLA Ulhas Tuenkar, nearly one ton of garbage had accumulated at the junction connecting San Jose de Areal, Curtorim, and Davorlim, creating an unsightly scene and posing potential health and environmental risks to nearby residents.
Following complaints from the public, a JCB machine was deployed to remove the accumulated waste and restore cleanliness in the area. Authorities acted swiftly to clear the site, stressing that such illegal dumping not only affects the surroundings but also increases the risk of foul odor, pest infestations, and the spread of diseases, particularly during the monsoon season.
The panchayat has issued a stern warning to residents, stating that strict action will be taken against anyone found dumping garbage illegally. Officials have announced that hefty fines will be imposed on violators and urged the public to use designated waste collection and disposal systems instead of discarding rubbish in open spaces.
The incident has once again highlighted the importance of responsible waste management and community participation in maintaining clean and hygienic surroundings. Authorities have appealed to residents to cooperate in keeping villages litter-free and report instances of illegal dumping to the concerned officials.
