Panaji, Goa: Chief Minister Pramod Sawant has issued a strong message stressing that Goa’s communal harmony and peaceful environment must be protected at all costs, while confirming that an FIR has been registered against Gautam Khattar over alleged remarks that sparked public outrage.
Addressing the media, the Chief Minister said the state government would not tolerate any attempt to disturb Goa’s long-standing tradition of communal unity and social harmony. He emphasized that strict legal action would be taken against anyone found trying to create tension or provoke unrest in the state.
Sawant confirmed that the Goa Police have registered a First Information Report (FIR) against Gautam Khattar following complaints over his alleged statements. He assured that the matter is now under investigation and that the law will take its own course without interference.
“Goa has always been known for its peace, unity and communal harmony. We will not allow anyone to disturb the state’s social fabric. Anyone attempting to create divisions or spread hatred will face strict action under the law,” the Chief Minister said.
The statement comes amid growing public attention over the controversy surrounding Khattar’s alleged remarks, which drew criticism from various sections of society. The registration of the FIR marks the beginning of the legal process, with police expected to investigate the allegations and record statements from those involved.
The Chief Minister reiterated that the government remains committed to maintaining law and order and ensuring that every individual in Goa feels safe, irrespective of religion, caste or community. He urged citizens not to pay attention to provocative statements or misinformation and instead cooperate with authorities in preserving peace.
Officials have appealed to the public to remain calm and allow the investigation to proceed fairly. Authorities have also warned against circulating inflammatory or unverified content on social media, stating that action will be taken against those attempting to spread rumours or incite unrest.
The Goa government has reaffirmed that safeguarding communal harmony remains one of its highest priorities and that any effort to disrupt the state’s peaceful atmosphere will be dealt with firmly in accordance with the law.
