The Goa Forward Party (GFP) has asserted that regional political parties continue to hold a crucial place in Goa’s political landscape, emphasizing that local leadership is essential to protect the state’s unique identity, culture, heritage, and long-term interests.
The party stated that although national parties have significantly expanded their presence across India, Goa’s distinct social, cultural, and environmental character requires political representation that understands the aspirations and concerns of its people. According to GFP, regional parties are better positioned to address issues specific to the state and ensure that Goa’s voice is not overshadowed by broader national agendas.
Reaffirming its commitment to the principle of Goem, Goemkar, Goemkarponn, the party said that preserving Goa’s identity should remain at the heart of policymaking. GFP stressed that matters related to land, language, environment, employment, culture, and the rights of Goans demand leadership that is deeply connected to the state’s history and values.
The party further noted that regional political movements have historically played an important role in shaping Goa’s governance and public discourse. It said that strong regional representation helps ensure greater accountability, encourages policies tailored to local needs, and safeguards the interests of future generations.
GFP also expressed concern that excessive dependence on national political narratives could dilute Goa’s unique character and shift attention away from issues that directly impact the state. The party maintained that regional voices serve as an important bridge between the people and the government, ensuring that development remains balanced, sustainable, and aligned with Goa’s priorities.
Calling for continued public support, the Goa Forward Party reiterated that regional parties are not merely political alternatives but vital institutions for preserving Goa’s identity, protecting its cultural heritage, and ensuring that decisions affecting the state are made with the interests of Goans at the forefront.
