Panaji: Chief Minister Pramod Sawant has assured Goa’s fishing community that no fishermen’s houses will be affected amid concerns surrounding Coastal Regulation Zone (CRZ) norms.
Addressing the issue during the Goa Shackathon event, the Chief Minister sought to allay fears raised by members of the fishing community regarding the future of their homes and livelihoods. He emphasized that the government remains committed to protecting the rights and interests of traditional fishing families.
Sawant clarified that while the government continues to work towards ensuring compliance with coastal regulations and promoting sustainable development, it will not take any action that adversely impacts fishermen’s residential properties.
The assurance comes in response to growing concerns over CRZ-related policies and their potential implications for coastal communities. Fishermen and local stakeholders have been seeking greater clarity on how regulatory measures would affect long-established settlements along Goa’s coastline.
The Chief Minister reiterated that the government would continue engaging with stakeholders to address their concerns while balancing environmental conservation with the welfare of traditional coastal communities.
