Bicholim Police have arrested two men for allegedly posing as police officers and cheating women of their gold ornaments in a series of chain-snatching incidents reported across Goa.
The accused have been identified as Gulam Shiraz, a resident of Sangli, Maharashtra, and Asadullah Afzal Ali Khan from Bidar, Karnataka. According to police, the duo impersonated law enforcement personnel to gain the trust of unsuspecting victims before convincing them to hand over their gold jewellery under the pretext of a security check.
During the operation, police seized fake police identity cards, masks, stones, glass bangles used to replace genuine ornaments, and a suspected stolen motorcycle believed to have been used in the commission of the crimes.
Investigators suspect the accused may be linked to multiple similar offences across the state and are examining their possible involvement in other chain-snatching cases. Police have appealed to members of the public, particularly senior citizens and women, to remain vigilant and verify the identity of individuals claiming to be police officers before complying with any requests.
Further investigation is underway, and authorities are working to determine whether additional persons were involved in the racket.
