
A 26-year-old migrant worker from Bihar lost his life after a cement electric pole collapsed on him during an installation project at Curtorim in South Goa. The deceased, identified as Gaurav Kumar, suffered grievous injuries in the accident and was immediately rushed to the Goa Medical College (GMC), Bambolim, where doctors declared him dead during treatment. The incident occurred while workers were engaged in erecting an electricity pole at the site.
According to police, preliminary investigations indicate that the pole fell during the installation process, trapping the worker underneath. Emergency responders and fellow workers rushed to his aid before he was shifted to the hospital. Authorities are investigating the sequence of events to determine the exact cause of the mishap and whether proper safety protocols were followed during the operation.
Following the incident, Maina–Curtorim Police registered a case against the site supervisor, a resident of Shimoga, Karnataka, on charges of alleged negligence. Investigators are examining whether there were lapses in supervision, safety measures, or handling of equipment that may have contributed to the fatal accident. Statements of workers and eyewitnesses are also being recorded as part of the probe.
The tragic incident has once again highlighted concerns over workplace safety at construction and utility project sites in Goa. Police said the investigation is continuing, and appropriate legal action will be taken if negligence is established. Authorities have also stressed the importance of adhering to safety norms to prevent similar accidents in the future.
