Online OPD Appointment Booking to Begin at GMC from Next Week

In a major step toward digitizing healthcare services, Goa Medical College (GMC) will launch online OPD appointment booking starting next week. The initiative will cover departments including Medicine, Surgery, Skin, ENT, and Orthopaedics, allowing patients to schedule consultations conveniently through a digital platform.

Announcing the development, Health Minister Vishwajit Rane said the move aims to reduce long queues, minimize waiting time, and enable patients to plan hospital visits more efficiently. “This initiative will make healthcare more accessible and patient-friendly. It’s a step toward modernizing public health services in Goa,” he stated.

The online booking system will allow patients to select their preferred department, doctor, and time slot, eliminating the need to wait for hours at registration counters. The system is expected to streamline operations at GMC’s busy outpatient departments, which cater to hundreds of patients daily.

Officials from the Health Department explained that the digital platform will also help in maintaining accurate patient records and improving coordination between departments. The initiative is part of the government’s broader plan to integrate technology into healthcare delivery across the state.

Patients and healthcare professionals have welcomed the announcement, noting that it will ease congestion and improve overall efficiency. “This will save time for both patients and staff. It’s a much-needed upgrade,” said a GMC staff member.

The Health Minister added that similar systems will soon be introduced in other government hospitals, ensuring uniform access to digital healthcare services statewide.

With this initiative, Goa continues to lead in healthcare innovation, combining technology with patient care to create a more efficient and accessible medical system.
