Goa Forward Party President and Fatorda MLA Vijai Sardesai on Tuesday alleged that Goa has turned into a “banana republic,” accusing the state government of undermining democratic institutions and failing to uphold transparency and accountability in governance.
Addressing the media, Sardesai claimed that arbitrary decision-making and the misuse of administrative powers had become increasingly common in the state. He alleged that government actions were eroding public confidence and weakening the rule of law, while urging the administration to function in a more transparent and accountable manner.
The Goa Forward Party leader also criticized the handling of several recent issues, stating that citizens’ concerns were being ignored despite repeated appeals. He asserted that governance should be based on constitutional principles rather than political convenience and called for greater respect for democratic processes.
The ruling government has not issued a detailed response to Sardesai’s remarks. The statement has added to the ongoing political debate in Goa, with opposition parties continuing to raise concerns over governance and administrative functioning.
