In a decisive enforcement move against escalating environmental violations, the Goa State Pollution Control Board (GSPCB) has ordered the immediate closure of two popular nightclubs operating in the coastal hotspot of Anjuna. The strict disciplinary action mandates that both commercial establishments cease all operations for a fixed period of two months, serving as a stern warning to the state’s nightlife sector.
The severe regulatory action was taken after the board officially withdrew the clubs’ ‘Consent to Operate’. This decision followed repeated and documented violations of permissible noise limits set for commercial zones. Furthermore, authorities highlighted that the establishments failed to transmit real-time noise monitoring data to the apex board, directly violating mandatory compliance directives.
Alongside the operational shutdown, heavy financial penalties have been levied against the violators. Environmental compensation fines amounting to ₹2 lakh and ₹1.4 lakh respectively have been imposed on the two establishments to account for the ecological and public disturbance caused.
The GSPCB has explicitly warned management that any future non-compliance or failure to implement proper corrective measures will invite even harsher legal ramifications. Future actions will be strictly pursued under the stringent provisions of the Environment (Protection) Act, 1986.
