The Calangute Police have booked a hotel staff member following allegations of a major insider theft at a hospitality establishment located in Candolim. The incident has raised serious questions regarding employee background verification processes within the coastal state’s bustling tourism and hospitality industry.
According to reliable police sources, the accused individual was employed at the front office desk of the hotel, granting them direct access to the main counter areas. Taking advantage of the quiet early hours of January 27, the staff member allegedly targeted the cash reserves. The individual reportedly took an estimated amount of over ₹3.34 lakh in cash directly from the counter around 4:00 AM before abruptly fleeing the premises.
The theft was discovered later when the management conducted their routine cash reconciliation checks and noticed a massive deficit. Upon reviewing security protocols and finding the front office employee missing from their shift, the hotel management promptly approached law enforcement authorities to file an official complaint.
The Calangute Police have successfully registered a formal criminal case against the absconding employee under the relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. Specialized teams are currently working on tracking the suspect’s movements and locating their current whereabouts to recover the stolen cash reserves.
