HC Seeks Reply on Shivaji Maharaj Statue at MPA

In a petition filed by the Mormugao Port Authority (MPA) regarding the installation of a statue of Shivaji Maharaj on its property, the Bombay High Court at Goa has issued specific legal directives. The court case has brought territorial and administrative jurisdictions under intense legal review.

The High Court has directed the South Goa Superintendent of Police and the Mormugao Collector to file their official replies on affidavit. The required affidavits must explain the exact action taken on the complaint filed by the MPA alleging illegal installation of the statue.

The dispute arose after the MPA claimed that the historical monument was erected on its designated grounds without receiving the required prior permissions or clearances. The legal confrontation has drawn significant local interest given the socio-cultural prominence of the historical figure involved.

The High Court has officially posted the matter for further hearing on March 10. Until the next hearing, authorities are expected to gather the necessary investigative facts to present a clear picture of the administrative oversight to the bench.
