A serious vehicular accident on National Highway 66 (NH 66) caused severe logistical disruptions after a heavy LPG tanker overturned on a critical stretch of the road. The massive vehicle flipped onto its side while navigating a sharp bend, blocking multiple lanes. Given the highly volatile nature of Liquid Petroleum Gas, the crash immediately escalated into a high-stakes emergency operation.
The accident occurred on the highway sector directly between Barcem and Padi. Fearing a potential spark or catastrophic explosion, emergency response teams rushed fire tenders to the scene to continuously douse the vehicle and suppress any gas vapors. As a strict precautionary measure, authorities completely halted the movement of all heavy commercial vehicles along the route.
To mitigate the massive highway congestion, the police department enacted emergency traffic management protocols. SP Traffic officially announced that standard traffic was being completely diverted via alternate rural routes to keep commuters safe and away from the crash site. The diversion caused significant delays for travelers moving between North and South Goa destinations.
Specialized crane equipment was brought to the location to begin the delicate task of uprighting the heavy tanker. Officials stated that normal traffic flows would only resume after the gas cargo was safely transferred and the vehicle was cleared. An investigation has been launched to determine if speed or mechanical failure caused the rollover.
