Residents across several parts of South Goa are reminded of the restricted water supply that was implemented on January 7 and 8, 2026, following a scheduled maintenance shutdown of the 160 MLD Salaulim Water Treatment Plant at Xelpem, Sanguem. The restriction affected the talukas of Sanguem, Quepem, Salcete, and Mormugao, with water supply being regulated between 9:00 AM and 7:00 PM on both days.
According to officials from the Department of Drinking Water, the temporary disruption was necessary to carry out essential maintenance works at the treatment facility to ensure the long-term reliability of the region’s water infrastructure. While the 160 MLD plant underwent maintenance, the 100 MLD Water Treatment Plant remained operational, helping to partially meet the water demand in the affected areas.
Authorities had advised residents to store adequate water in advance and use it judiciously during the maintenance period. The planned shutdown was completed as scheduled, with normal supply gradually restored after the works concluded.
The incident highlighted the importance of regular maintenance of Goa’s key water infrastructure, which serves thousands of households and businesses across South Goa. Officials continue to encourage residents to stay informed through official notifications regarding future maintenance schedules and water supply advisories.
