A seemingly routine request for alms took a bizarre turn on the streets of Margao, leading to the detention of two individuals. Margao police detained the duo after they allegedly attempted to cheat a man who was simply trying to offer them assistance. The incident occurred when the two suspects approached a victim in the city under the guise of seeking charitable donations.
According to local law enforcement, the situation escalated rapidly when the victim agreed to help. As the man took out his cash to offer them money, one of the accused individuals abruptly snatched the currency from his hands. In an unusual and desperate move to conceal the stolen money and make a quick getaway, the suspect allegedly shoved the cash into his own mouth and attempted to flee the scene.
Fortunately, the suspect’s escape was quickly thwarted. The victim immediately raised an alarm, alerting nearby citizens to the theft. Prompted by the commotion, alert passers-by quickly intervened and managed to stop the fleeing suspects. The surrounding crowd reportedly forced the duo to return the snatched money to the victim before law enforcement could get there. Margao police later arrived at the scene and picked up both individuals, taking them into custody for further investigation into the attempted theft.
