Another Russian Found Murdered in Morjim

A disturbing crime has once again shaken the coastal village of Morjim, North Goa, after a Russian woman was found murdered in a rented room late Thursday night. This marks the second murder of a Russian national reported within a single day, raising serious concerns among residents and authorities about the safety of foreign visitors in the region.

According to police sources, the victim was discovered by locals who alerted law enforcement after noticing suspicious activity near the property. The woman, believed to be in her mid-30s, had been staying in Morjim for several weeks. Preliminary reports suggest that she may have been attacked inside her room, though the exact cause of death is yet to be confirmed pending forensic examination.

The Pernem Police have launched a full-scale investigation, cordoning off the area and collecting evidence from the scene. “We are treating this as a case of homicide. Our teams are working to identify the suspect and establish the motive,” said a senior police official. The body has been sent for post-mortem at the Goa Medical College and Hospital in Bambolim.

This incident comes just hours after another Russian national was found dead under suspicious circumstances in a separate case, also in North Goa. The back-to-back murders have prompted the Goa Police to intensify patrols and coordinate with foreign consulates to ensure the safety of tourists and expatriates.

Local residents expressed shock and fear over the sudden rise in violent crimes. “Morjim has always been peaceful and popular among foreign tourists. Two murders in one day are unheard of,” said a local shopkeeper. The area, known for its serene beaches and vibrant nightlife, attracts a large number of Russian visitors every year, many of whom stay for extended periods.

Investigators are exploring multiple angles, including personal disputes, robbery, and possible connections between the two cases. Police sources revealed that they are reviewing CCTV footage from nearby establishments and questioning individuals who may have interacted with the victim in recent days.

The Russian Consulate in Mumbai has been informed of the incident and is assisting local authorities in identifying the victim and contacting her family. Officials have urged Russian nationals in Goa to remain cautious and report any suspicious activity to the police.

Meanwhile, the Goa tourism department has reiterated its commitment to ensuring visitor safety. “We are deeply concerned about these incidents and are working closely with law enforcement to strengthen security measures,” said a spokesperson.

As investigations continue, the tragic deaths have cast a shadow over Goa’s tourism image, prompting calls for stricter monitoring of rented accommodations and better coordination between local authorities and foreign embassies.

Police have assured that updates will be shared as soon as more details emerge. For now, the community of Morjim remains on edge, hoping for swift justice and a return to peace in their coastal haven.
