Contraband, Mobile Phones Seized From Colvale Central Jail

A major joint search operation at Colvale Central Jail has uncovered a significant haul of contraband items, raising serious concerns about prison security in Goa.

According to officials, the Colvale Police seized 30 grams of suspected charas valued at ₹30,000, 15 packets of Golden Virginia tobacco, loose tobacco, and 26 mobile phones with chargers from inmates during the operation. The raid was conducted as part of a coordinated effort to curb the inflow of prohibited substances and communication devices into the facility.

Authorities have launched a probe to determine how these items entered the jail premises and to identify those responsible for smuggling them in. The investigation aims to trace the source of the contraband and strengthen monitoring mechanisms within the prison system.

This operation marks one of the largest seizures at Colvale Central Jail in recent months, underscoring the ongoing challenge of maintaining discipline and security in correctional institutions across the state.
