“Not An Inch Will Be Touched”, Warns MLA Sankalp Amonkar

Tension prevailed at the Vailankanni Chapel site after officials of the Mormugao Port Authority (MPA) reportedly arrived to carry out a demarcation exercise, prompting local residents and devotees to gather at the location in protest.

As news of the proposed demarcation spread, a large number of locals assembled near the chapel, expressing concern over the reported move and demanding that the religious site remain undisturbed. The situation drew significant public attention, with devotees voicing their opposition to any action that could affect the chapel and its surroundings.

MLA Sankalp Amonkar rushed to the site and strongly opposed the exercise, assuring residents that the chapel would be protected. Addressing those present, he declared, “Not an inch will be touched,” reaffirming his support for the local community and devotees.

The MLA’s intervention helped calm the situation, although residents continued to insist that the authorities provide clarity regarding the purpose of the demarcation exercise. Many maintained that the chapel holds deep religious and cultural significance for the local community and should not be subjected to any action without proper consultation.

The reported visit by MPA officials has reignited concerns among locals over land-related issues in the area, with residents demanding transparency and assurances that the interests of the community will be safeguarded.

As of now, the Mormugao Port Authority has not issued an official statement on the reported demarcation exercise or the developments at the site.
