Goa’s Health Minister, Vishwajit Rane, has publicly addressed the ongoing difficulties faced by the state in maintaining optimal staffing levels within its medical institutions. The Minister emphasized that while dedicated efforts are currently underway to increase the overall availability of medical professionals across government healthcare facilities, the state continues to encounter significant hurdles. These persistent challenges primarily revolve around the complex tasks of both recruiting new doctors and successfully retaining existing medical staff within the public health sector.
Highlighting a specific root cause of these workforce imbalances, Minister Rane pointed to the financial disparities between public and private medical practice. He observed that doctors who transition from the private sector into government roles often bring with them significantly higher salary expectations. Because these expectations frequently exceed standard government pay scales, it creates internal imbalances, which he noted ultimately results in much shorter tenures for these professionals within state-run facilities.
Despite these identified obstacles, the Health Department remains focused on finding viable solutions to stabilize the medical workforce. Minister Rane assured the public that the government is actively and comprehensively addressing all aspects related to the recruitment and retention of doctors. The ultimate goal of these ongoing administrative efforts is to reinforce and strengthen the overall framework of public healthcare services available to the citizens.
