Panaji: A woman sustained injuries after being attacked by a wild bison in Mansher, Revora, in North Goa, once again bringing the issue of human-wildlife conflict into sharp focus.
The incident occurred when the bison reportedly charged at the woman, leaving her injured. She was provided medical attention, while forest officials were informed of the attack. The exact circumstances leading to the encounter are under investigation.
The attack has sparked concern among residents, who say sightings of wild bison near villages and agricultural fields have become increasingly frequent. Locals are urging the Forest Department to implement stronger preventive measures, including regular patrolling, early warning systems, and rapid response teams to minimize the risk of such incidents.
Human-wildlife conflict has remained a recurring challenge in several parts of Goa, particularly in areas bordering forests. Conservation experts stress the need for a balanced approach that safeguards both wildlife and local communities through improved habitat management, public awareness, and timely intervention by authorities.
Officials are expected to assess the situation in the area and take appropriate measures to prevent further encounters while ensuring the safety of residents.
